English Bulldog Personality

English Bulldog personality can best be summed up in one word: loyal. They are very calm, good natured dogs but they can be stubborn. If they set their mind to something they don't give up. For this reason, Bulldogs form very strong relationships with their family members. They thrive in environments where they are showered with attention and daily interaction.

English Bulldogs do very well with babies, children, teens, adults and the elderly. They make really good family pets because they're gentle with the children and, for the most part, don't mind other pets or cats.

It was once said that the way a dog grows up is entirely dependent on the way it's treated by its owner. There's more than an element of truth in that.

It's pretty much the case that their personality is suited for anyone as long as you provide the following: proper care, love, attention and devotion. Want to see first-hand what we're talking about?

English Bulldog Puppies Video

Here is a short little video of an English Bulldog with a human baby.

Now if that isn't love, I don't know what is. Along with these strong bonds comes a desire to protect and defend. (If you want to see more Bulldog videos, please visit our English Bulldog video page.)

Notice though how the mother is training the baby girl to be gentle with the dog. She doesn't allow her to pull the dog's ears. You need to train your children, if you have them, not to pull the dog around or hurt it. This generates feelings of mutual respect and will result in fewer problems.

If you have a family, bear in mind that you'll have two lots of training to do, the dog and the children.

If you put in the time to train the dog then you will have a dog you can trust.

If you train your children to be careful and respectful of the English Bulldog personality you will have a much loved family companion who, in return, will adore you and yours.

The Bulldog is very territorial so if he feels his family or home is in any danger, he will defend. But otherwise, they are generally an easy going and relaxed breed. Just always keep in mind, they need a lot of human contact and interaction to remain happy, well-mannered and overall balanced.

Once you have them trained bulldogs are very loyal and obedient. They're friendly and they always want to please, so they're a faithful companion. If you want a friend who's soppy, doesn't care whether you take them for a walk or not, and who loves you unconditionally then a bulldog is perfect.
