English Bulldog grooming is really simple compared to other dog breeds, but the grooming that is required is very important. As we've mentioned previously, this is not a high maintenance breed.
Even though you can save money because you don't need to take your pet to a professional groomer, there are still important things that you need to do to care for your bulldog properly.
The four simple steps are cleaning wrinkles, brushing, bathing and trimming nails.
Some of these things will need to be done more than once a day, most notably keeping the wrinkles clean.
Bathing your Bulldog is not the only time to clean wrinkles. This actually should be done every day. The area inside the Bulldog's wrinkles can trap moisture and debris.
Leaving dirt and moisture inside the wrinkle is an invitation to bacteria to breed. This can result in an infection. Daily cleaning is the only way to prevent this.
In these videos you can watch how it's done by an experienced owner.
The next step in proper English Bulldog grooming is brushing. Brushing on a regular basis is very important. Every time you brush, dirt and debris are removed from the dog's coat. If this debris were to remain, it could possibly cause allergic reactions to the skin.
Also, by brushing your Bulldog, natural oils in the skin and coat are activated and distributed. This results in a shiny, healthy coat. We recommend brushing your English Bulldog at least 3 to 5 times a week using a soft bristle or rubber brush. Finally, brush both with the grain and against the grain for better coverage and effectiveness.

If you need to give your English Bulldog a bath you need to take special care of his face, particularly his eyes and ears. Make sure that you don't get either water or soap in them.
Don't get water in his mouth either. The water should be warm and shallow, it only needs to come up to just over his knees.
Start at the top and work down, just like you do yourself when you take a shower or bath. Use a dog shampoo that is gentle and won't take all the oils out of his coat. Make sure that you rinse him off thoroughly, otherwise you can put him at risk of an infection.
Pay special attention to his face and around his tail. Deep wrinkles which are damp provide perfect conditions for bacteria and if left uncleaned will get nasty very fast. Don't use soap or shampoo on his face and ensure that you dry him thoroughly.
Another very important aspect of English Bulldog grooming is nail trimming. Most English Bulldogs will need to have their nails trimmed at least twice a month, perhaps more with puppies. Nails should be trimmed as short as possible above the quick because if nails get too long, they can cause the Bulldog's toes to spread out unnaturally.
When trimming nails on your English Bulldog, use either dog nail clippers or a grinder. Always cut or grind just to the curve of the nail above the quick. BE CAREFUL. The quick is where all the nerves are located. If you cut into the quick, you will know it! Your English Bulldog will let out a yelp and you will see blood coming from the nail. It's better to leave them a little long than to cut them too short!
