Unlike regular breeders, financial profit is not the primary objective but rather to improve the quality and health of the Bulldog. This kind of dedication can only come from those individuals who have a deep, working knowledge, respect and love for the breed.
Responsible English Bulldog Breeders - 13 Things To Look For:
- Only breed the English Bulldog, perhaps one other kind of dog
- Are very knowledgeable about the breed standard
- Maintain and are willing to show vet records
- Perform genetic testing for health conditions known to the breed
- Do not over breed
- Do not sell puppies younger than seven weeks old
- Offer the buyer instructions on proper care
- Provide clean living conditions to their Bulldogs and puppies
- Provide references upon request
- Feed high quality dog foods
- Are actively involved in local, state and national English Bulldog Breeder Clubs
- Will give you a written contract and health guarantee
- Will ask you a lot of questions

Beware of "Pretty" Websites
Please beware of pretty websites that 'pretend' to be wonderful Bulldog breeders. Don't be fooled by the term "USDA Commercial Kennel" which in many cases is just a fancy name for a Puppy Mill. Some of these individuals supply an enormous amount of Bulldog puppies to pet stores. English Bulldog Rescue Groups usually end up rehabilitating and rehoming Bulldogs that come from unethical - unlicensed breeders, puppy stores and mills.
The reputable, responsible individuals don't need, or want their names all over the web.
They already have approved LOCAL buyers on their waiting list for the next litter...which could be a year away! Always investigate potential breeders to make sure that they are licensed in your particular city and state.
Also, check with The Bulldog Club Inc in the United Kingdom or the Bulldog Club of America in the United States, to see if your potential breeder is recommended, endorsed and is in good standing with their respective clubs.
